Dundee has been the launchpad for great talent. Snow Patrol met at the University of Dundee, where the four-times platinum selling indie-rock band started off playing gigs at some of the famous local pubs.

Mercury Music Prize nominees, The View were former St John's RC High School pupils and wrote their own material in a back room of The Bayview Pub, as well as playing at the Centenary Bar, and The Doghouse.

Singer-songwriter KT Tunstall and Deacon Blue singer, Ricky Ross, are both former pupils of the High School of Dundee, while Placebo front man Brian Molko also grew up in the City.

Other famous Dundonians include the 1970s soul-funk outfit Average White Band, the Associates, Spare Snare and Danny Wilson and lead signer of Deacon Blue, Ricky Ross.

The City is home to many rising stars like Panda Su and  if you like a cross between Indie Pop and country rock then you’ll love the Hazey Janes whose music displays strong folk song harmonies.
